For the first time in a year, FC Bayern missed a home win. Against Werder Bremen, the record champions made a mistake in the title fight. That upset the Munich team, including a “very cheap goal”. The Munich man also fears for Lucas Hernández’s injury.
The completely unexpected obstacle really hurt Hansi Flick. And that too on the anniversary night, it was nothing with victory number 46 in competitive game 50. After a brief slap with Florian Kohfeldt, the Bayern Munich coach reluctantly entered the booth after the disappointing 1: 1 (0: 1) against Werder Bremen. “We conceded a very, very cheap goal,” complained Thomas Müller after the game at Sky: “So Bremen’s plan will work. You defended with discipline.” In Bayern’s lead, however, “the maximum chances were lacking”, complained Manuel Neuer. “We had to invest a lot.” He has only had five good chances to score, said the goalkeeper, “that’s usually double for us.”
“We don’t get to clear ourselves more often from the outside,” said head coach Flick. “The few moments that we created were not so dangerous because Bremen defended them well. We have to defend the 0-1 better.” In general, the coach did not want to certify a good performance by his team, which at least had struggled to return to the draw: “We are not satisfied with the game.”
“Wait and see” with Hernández
In addition to Werder’s shock absorber, Bayern now have to fear a failure from defender Lucas Hernández. The soccer world champion fell to the ground after a duel against Bremen and was substituted in the 19th minute. “Lucas landed his pelvis on the ground, with all his strength. He has had trouble walking and is being examined,” Flick said. “We will have to wait and see what it looks like with him.”
Hernández will be examined on Sunday, the coach said. For the defender, who signed last year for 80 million euros, a long absence would be especially bitter, since after a difficult first season (comeback after a knee injury) he is already common in the Munich team as a left back. Alphonso Davies is missing as another injured left-back.
However, Flick expects there will be one or two returnees for the Champions League game against RB Salzburg on Wednesday. “Bouna Sarr could be considered for Wednesday, just like Coco Tolisso. But we will not take risks, nor do we have enough players on board,” he said. If Hernández fails, it will be “a little tight on defense, we have to be creative.”
