According to the police, the 72-year-old man was motionless on the floor and was not responding. He was taken to the Salzburg clinic by helicopter.
The Ried district pensioner had been working with a blowtorch near his son’s garden in Lohnsburg to destroy weeds along the Thujenzaune. Suddenly, the hedge may have lit.
A neighbor (59) noticed the smoke and saw the seriousness of the situation. She was still watching the 72-year-old man turn off the torch, then rushed to his apartment building and got a bucket of water.
The pensioner was motionless on the ground, right next to the Thuja fence. The neighbor was able to drive the man away, other neighbors had already informed the emergency services.
The hedge completely burned
The Kobernaußen and Lohnsburg fire brigades were quickly on site and prevented the flames from spreading to the house.
Thuja’s fence was completely burned over a length of about twelve meters. The 72-year-old car parked directly next to the fence also suffered visible damage.
