The WAT Margareten Fivers are in the second round of the EHF European League! As outsiders against Benfica Lisbon, the Viennese create a sensational change after their 26:28 loss in the first leg and rise after a 38:34 home win.

Benfica, the second strongest player in Portugal behind FC Porto, entered the competition as favorites. But the guests, dotted with players from teams from Spain, Portugal, France, Slovenia and Serbia, are literally overwhelmed, especially in the opening phase.

Meanwhile, the Fivers lead with nine goals, after around 16 minutes it’s 13: 4 in favor of Margaretner, who needed a three-goal win. At halftime it is 18:13.

Although Benfica reach four goals over and over again in the second half, the Fivers remain strong and play the surprise at home.

Only the second round will be drawn. You have to survive two more rounds before the group stage of the second biggest club competition after the Champions League.

“We created a little miracle,” said Fivers defender Marin Martinovic, with six goals as the second best Viennese pitcher, at ORF. “We are a young and daring team. We have respect, but we are not afraid,” added team player ÖHB Lukas Hutecek.
