The police spokesman, Mario Nemetz, prepared on Sunday a first sobering balance of the last days at the request of the APA. In addition to the removal of license plates due to technical violations, the police had also recorded some traffic accidents. “The biggest problem was undoubtedly the disrespectful behavior of the people towards the Carinthian population and the executive,” Nemetz said.
“Pretty much anything you can do with cars”
After all, this year there have been no riots, no bodily harm or resistance offenses. “But practically everything was done in terms of the traffic law that can be done with cars,” the police spokesman said. Howling engines, deliberately caused misfires, rubber dueling cars or acceleration in the middle of the local area, surrounded by hundreds of spectators, all this has been on the agenda since last Wednesday. “And that every night until 4:00 am – and in the morning it resumed,” the police spokesman said.
Lock in Velden, column in the Pyramidenkogel
On Sunday night, the Velden road had to be closed at 10:30 pm: “There were thousands of people in the place, nothing happened. The situation only calmed down around 1:00 am.” The road to Pyramidenkogel was also closed overnight and the column of vehicles reached almost the entire length of the mountain road.
Car fans are flooding Carinthia
The region around Faaker See and Wörthersee, as well as Keutschacher Seental, parts of Klagenfurt and Villach was literally flooded by car fans. The fact that the fall meeting was so intense this year is probably due to the fact that the official GTI meeting in spring was canceled. What was particularly notable was the lack of knowledge shown by many tuning fans, Nemetz describes: “The penalties they get there are included in the party budget. Some even admit it.”
