A 57-year-old skier who had been missing from Großvenediger in East Tyrol since Saturday was found dead in an avalanche on Tuesday. Police confirmed a report from ORF Tirol to the APA.

The man had been hit by a slab of snow in the area of ​​the summit and dragged down the west face for about 350 meters. The local was a mountain rescuer, as announced by the mountain rescue service in Prägraten.

Recco signal received by helicopter

The search for the man had to be canceled in recent days due to bad weather conditions. On Monday, according to the mountain rescue service, an avalanche cone was discovered at the foot of the south face of the Großvenediger during the few possible exploratory flights. Finally, a Recco signal from the helicopter victim was located.

Body discovered in Großvenediger

The search continued Tuesday, and rescuers from the mountain flew to the avalanche cone. Eventually, the body of the 57-year-old man was discovered. The skier left for the summit on Saturday morning, but did not return until evening.
