The indomitable resistance fighter and advocate against anti-Semitism and right-wing extremism has died aged 100

Vienna (OTS) Lotte Brainin died at the age of 100. On November 12, her birthday was celebrated in a huge video show and online party, with greetings from Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen, Nobel Prize winner Elfriede Jelinek, and many politicians and colleagues. “She was a heroine of the Jewish resistance who founded resistance groups in the Auschwitz-Birkenau and Ravensbrück women’s concentration camps. He was indomitable and he conveyed it to young people in an excellent way, ”says Eva Blimlinger, historian and spokesperson for Greens commemoration policy, showing her admiration.

After 1945, Brainin, born in 1920 as Charlotte Sonntag, was a founding member of the Austrian camp communities of Auschwitz-Birkenau and Ravensbrück. His activities in the Austrian Federal Association of Antifascists, Resistance Fighters and Victims of Fascism were extremely committed. “When you first met her there was always something to talk about and talk about and it was a pleasure listening to her, despite the terrible memories. She and her husband Hugo spent many years as witnesses in schools, adult education centers or other educational institutions, ”says Blimlinger, summarizing the important work of Lotte Brainin.
