Premiere of “Madame Butterfly” in an Oscars production and a light installation that sends a strong message.
On Monday evening there was a very special premiere to celebrate at the Vienna State Opera: the first performance of “Madame Butterfly”, staged by Anthony Minghella and his wife Carolyn Choa and under the musical direction of musical director Philippe Jordan, It was not only an outstanding performance in the hands of a true Oscar winner in the plan, but also the first performance of the new season in new and unprecedented conditions: after all, the Vienna State Opera has a new conductor in Bogdan Roščić and, due to the ongoing crown crisis, completely new framework conditions.
Many celebrities from politics, business, culture and the media attended, after a closing time of 6 months, on this special evening to enjoy the first premiere of Roščić’s management and admire Asmik Griogrian in the role of Cio-Cio-San: including the first. Federal Chancellor Brigitte Bierlein, Mayor Michael Ludwig and his wife, former opera ball organizer Maria Großbauer, great lady of culture Birgit Sarata, Christina Lugner and many more.

As a visible sign to the outside world, since last night a temporary lighting installation by designer Alexander Kada was displayed on the facade of the Vienna State Opera: “Open”: a sign of attitude, a permanent invitation to the whole city , a widely visible commitment to everything to be open.
