In the Council of Ministers, the federal government decided on Wednesday an educational bonus for the unemployed. This was presented after the Council of Ministers by Family Minister Christine Aschbacher (ÖVP) and Social Affairs Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens). The bonus is intended to support job seekers who are training to acquire a new qualification.

With the education voucher, the unemployed must receive training for so-called shortage occupations. Anschober calls the offer an “opportunity” and an “open door.” The minister encourages those affected to accept the offer.

180 euros per month

The model provides that people who are readapting as part of the Coronavirus Labor Foundation as of next October will receive a bonus of 180 euros in addition to unemployment benefits. This applies to all training and retraining courses lasting at least four months. According to Minister Aschbacher, the amount corresponds to an average increase in unemployment benefit of around 19 percent.

According to information from Wednesday, it will not be necessary to complete your own application. Those affected should automatically receive the money if the requirements are met. The costs of this step are estimated at 58 million euros by 2022. The coalition hopes to reach 100,000 people in this way, around half of whom should receive the educational bonus according to the plans.
