Google is slowly getting into trouble

[ad_1]

Huawei has taken a beating lately. As a result of the trade dispute between China and the US, US companies can no longer trade with Huawei and foreign suppliers have also come under pressure in some cases. A particularly important point here is that Huawei cannot do business with Android developer Google and therefore cannot install Google services such as Gmail, Play Store or Google Maps navigation software on its new smartphones. In response, Huawei has massively expanded its own services, and now there is also an alternative to Google Maps: Petal Maps.

Petal Maps: Huawei’s new map service can do that

An important application that was previously missing from Huawei’s mobile services is navigation software. Huawei has now closed this gap with Petal Maps. The functions offered by the map service are very similar to those of Google Maps. For example, users can simply search for restaurants and other places on Petal Maps and save them to their favorites. The navigation function can also be activated at any time, taking you to your destination using real-time information on (public) traffic. Those who prefer a 3D view can also activate it in Huawei’s map app and the viewing angle can also be adjusted as desired.

Anyone looking for extraordinary and unique outlets will also find what they are looking for: Users can operate Huawei’s Petal Maps via gesture control. To do this, you must first place your hand in front of the smartphone. As soon as the corresponding symbol appears on the screen, the view or zoom, for example, can be changed with a single movement of the hand. However, this currently only works with the Huawei Mate 40, Mate 30 and P40 series of smartphones (each with EMUI 11).

Huawei’s navigation can only be used in a limited way so far

Petal Maps can already be found in Huawei’s App Gallery and can also be downloaded and installed. However, the app is still in the beta stage and is therefore only available for the latest Huawei smartphones. Of course, this will change in the future. In total, Petal Maps should be available in more than 140 countries and of course Germany is also part of the game. The map material comes from the Dutch manufacturer of navigation systems TomTom and is therefore also of high quality.

In terms of security and data protection, Huawei promises that all local regulations will be observed. In addition, the location data is protected by end-to-end encryption and should therefore not be visible to third parties.
