Vienna – Now the economic and corruption prosecutor’s office is also investigating Casinos CEO Bettina Glatz-Kremsner for false testimony in the casino affair. This threatens a prison sentence of up to three years.
Glatz-Kremsner, contrary to her statement, had received signals from the Finance Ministry that she could count on support for the appointment as head of the casino. The former deputy head of the ÖVP is accused of false statements on six points. The judges rely on the chat messages between her and the head of the state holding company ÖBAG, Thomas Schmid, a confidant of the ÖVP Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, who is also under investigation.
Private contacts
Before the prosecution, Glatz-Kremsner said about his relationship with Schmid that he had known him from the time of the government negotiations, in autumn 2017. And there were “professional contacts in his role as secretary general” in the finance department, informal or not. private. Documented cell phone chats appear to refute this.
On March 29, 2016, for example, a meeting was organized at Schmid’s: “I am making a private invitation to my home. I would like to help our Gernot Blümel (övp wien chef) a little to get established. It would be great if you had the time and the desire to come. Eight people, dinner and very informal. LG t. “According to the minutes, Glatz-Kremsner replied:” Sounds great, of course I’m very happy to be there. “After the meeting, Glatz-Kremsner thanked him:” Good morning, Thomas! Thank you again for the wonderful evening yesterday and for your special hospitality! I really enjoyed your cooking skills and the interesting conversations. I wish you a good weekend and hope to see you soon. Sincerely, Bettina. “Schmid’s response:” Dear Bettina, thank you for coming. Thanks to your presence, the evening was a success! Gernot was very happy. I look forward to next time. LG Thomas “.
Oppositionists demand consequences
It also happens short. Glatz-Kremsner Schmid wrote that he was with the “BK” (Federal Chancellor). “Is HBK happy?” He asked. And: “Will your substitute stay?” (Deputy). His response: “It was an extremely positive appointment – he thanked me – also for his support.” The ÖVP Blümel Finance Minister does not comment on the case, nor does ÖBAG.
The opposition demands consequences. The supervisory board must answer “if Glatz-Kremsner remains acceptable at the top of the casinos”, says the leader of the SPÖ faction in the U-Committee, Jan Krainer. The leader of the FPÖ parliamentary group, Christian Hafenecker, believes that Glatz-Kremsner has to give up as head of the casino. The NEOS are pushing once again to leave Schmid as head of ÖBAG, and are considering inviting Glatz-Kremsner back to Committee U, which also includes the issue of casinos. Glatz-Kremsner says he was “shocked” by the suspicion of the false statement. And: “All accusations” could “be removed from the world.” (kale)
