Konrad was also satisfied after his third Giro. “I think the whole team did a good job. The team was always present and fought for stage wins,” said the top-ranked Austrian. Peter Sagen won the only stage victory for the German team, Konrad came third in section 13 and did better in the overall standings. He describes this as a “good result” himself, having previously set a goal of finishing in the top ten. “We are very satisfied with his performance,” emphasized Bora team principal Ralph Denk.

The victory on the last day went to the time trial specialist Filippo Ganna, the Italian won all three time trials and another part of this year’s Giro. After the Tour de France, which largely ran smoothly, this was meanwhile untrue in crown chaos. Co-favorites Simon Yates and Steven Kruijswijk were eliminated from the race after positive tests, their Mitchelton-Scott and Jumbo-Visma racing teams withdrew. For a brief period, the premature termination of the Giro was also debated. “I really enjoyed the three weeks. Now I am happy to be able to spend time with my family after this difficult season due to the coronavirus,” said Konrad, who was eager to go home.
