What an achievement for Marco Odermatt. In the second round of the giant slalom in Kranjska Gora, the Swiss got rid of the competition with a gala performance.
March 13, 2021
Odermatt, who was in fourth place after the first round, crashed the fastest time in the snow in the final and left his opponents clearly behind. Half-time leader Loic Meillard also bit his teeth at the time of his teammate and finished second, 1.06 seconds behind. Alexis Pinturault (he was in second place after the first race) had to be satisfied with fourth place at the end, behind Austrian Stefan Brennsteiner.
With his fourth World Cup victory, Odermatt took the lead in the Giant Slalom World Cup. He is now 25 points ahead of Pinturault. At the same time, the Swiss gained a lot of ground in the battle for the great crystal ball. The advantage of Pinturault, who is currently not in top form, has been reduced to 51 points.

The best Azzurro was World Vice Champion Luca De Aliprandini, who went from 18th to 15th in the final. Riccardo Tonetti landed in 19th place and simply failed to qualify for the World Cup final in Lenzerheide at 26th in the discipline ranking. The other South Tyrolese Alex Hofer, Manfred Mölgg and Hannes Zingerle missed a place in the top 30 in the first round and were therefore no longer part of the decision.
A slalom will be held on Sunday (9.30 am / 12.30 pm) in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia. The World Cup final in Lenzerheide will take place next week.
