Free hugs! We are hungry for skin

The touch makes you happy, gentle and healthy, and now many are missing. However, in some countries others have already kept their distance, social norms require it. In Austria, one came surprisingly close.

Admittedly, it sounds like porn: “skin hunger”. But in Denmark, where the term “Hudsult” is particularly popular, it only means the innocent longing to play that takes over many after the long, cold, dark winter. Serious researchers also call the phenomenon “skin hunger”: gentle pressure on the epidermis, our largest sense organ, is a vital necessity, such as eating, drinking, and sleeping. Babies need it to survive: instinct urges us to caress and love them. Oh, they are denied. This showed the terrible fate of the children, who did not have any loving physical contact in the Romanian orphanages before the fall of the communist dictatorship: they suffered significant physical and emotional damage.
