A gang of five scammers took some people out of their money in the Vöcklabruck district. The perpetrators acted extremely professional.
In cooperation with the Vienna LKA, the Frankenmarkt police station was able to investigate an international group of five perpetrators reported for commercial fraud. In the period from June 2020 to August 2020, the defendant placed quarter-page color advertisements in an Austrian print medium several times. It was advertised under the well-known slogan “Bars for Rares” with the purchase of gold jewelry in combination with the purchase of fur coats at the highest prices.
The scammers were very professional
The defendant rented a shop in the Vöcklabruck district to conduct business. The victims were pretended that the fur coats, which were generally not for sale, would be bought for up to 2,500 euros. By pretending to be informed and serious, combined with the ignorance of the victims, the defendant managed to acquire the valuables for a quarter or a third of their actual value.
I never have fur coats
The victims accepted the low purchase price of the valuables in light of the promised high purchase price of the fur coats. Due to the defendants, the purchase of the fur coats was repeatedly postponed or rejected with various excuses. The eleven known victims so far come from Upper Austria and Styria. The total damage is in the five-digit euro range, police report.
