Foda, ÖFB team boss: There is no “team A, B or C”
The prerequisites for a home win for the Austrian national team on Sunday (as of 8:45 pm on the LIVE ticker) rarely seemed better than now!
While the ÖFB team is riding the wave of success with four wins in a row, three of them without conceding a goal, Northern Ireland’s opponents are experiencing one of the worst bankruptcies of the recent past. The home defeat in the Eurocup playoff against Slovakia is likely to have physically and mentally hurt the number 41 in the FIFA rankings.
Franco Foda knows very well that sick opponents should not be underestimated. “They lost against Slovakia and they are still a very robust team with a good mentality,” warns the team boss of stiff resistance.
Classification? With the ÖFB team “it doesn’t matter”
(The text continues below the video).
Unlike the international friendly in Luxembourg, this is where an experienced and established point guard should meet at the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna. With David Alaba, Marcel Sabitzer, Stefan Lainer, Xaver Schlager and Marko Arnautovic, there are several returnees ready, meaning Foda has plenty of options when it comes to the team’s lineup.
In the Grand Duchy there was a rather unusual starting lineup for the conditions of the national team. A typical A-Elf had to give way to a B-, if not even C-Elf, due to various injuries and crown chaos. A fact that Foda does not want to leave standing.
“So the discussion with teams A, B or C are topics in the media. It does not matter within our team,” clarifies the German. “For me there is only one team, one team. And all the players who are now participating in this course have my absolute confidence.”
However, in the next sigh Foda assures: “On Sunday the team will look a little different from the last game, there is no doubt.”
Swot warns of the closure
Regardless of which actors will challenge Northern Ireland, there is a great opportunity for Alaba and his colleagues. In the event of a home win over the “Green and White Army”, a draw against Norway on Wednesday would be enough to secure promotion from League B to League A.
“But we must not make the mistake now and only deal with Norway. First we have Northern Ireland on our chest and we have to win this game,” insisted Foda on maximum points. “We have to go to the tackles and play aggressively.”
But be careful! With Alaba, Lainer, Aleksandar Dragovic, Martin Hinteregger, Xaver Schlager and Michael Gregoritsch, there are six team kickers on the roster who would be excluded from the decisive duel with Norway in the event of a caution.
“We will certainly sensitize the players before the game,” said Foda, who can dispense with “unnecessary yellow cards, like complaining or hitting the ball.”
