Formula 1 live ticker: will qualifying also be a sliding game?

Dreher Perez

And yesterday’s Horgy shoot also seems to be continuing under these conditions. Pérez is the first driver to be caught today. It definitely won’t be the last …

10:03 am

Intermediate

That was to be expected. Some drivers take the track, but travel in intermediates. There will be no fast times in FT3. Maybe you can drive with slicks towards the end. But even if the track dries up, there will definitely be no better times again. It will be exciting to qualify!

FT3 is pending

The third training session in Istanbul will start in a few minutes. The drivers now have another 60 minutes to focus on qualifying, if the track permits. As always, this is the time to open our session ticker with Christian Nimmervoll. There you can find the complete coverage of the training, here we concentrate on the most important information, images and other news from the paddock.

Pirelli increases tire pressure

Pirelli increased the prescribed minimum tire pressure by 1 psi each after Friday’s training sessions at the front and rear. For slicks, it is now 24 psi in the front and 21 psi in the rear. At Pirelli, the adaptation is explained by the fact that the loads, despite the low level of grip, were high. Drivers will not be happy because the higher the pressure, the more dissatisfied the drivers will be.

Comparison: Verstappen vs. Albon

Yesterday we took a look at how the gap between the two Ferrari drivers has widened throughout the season. Today we are going to take a closer look at the situation at Red Bull. Verstappen has 162 points there, which is significantly more than double that of Albon (64).

The results are especially bitter after Albons’ podium at Mugello. That was by no means a breakthrough for him, on the contrary! In the aftermath, Verstappen leads with 52: 1 points against his teammate. Also worth noting: when the Dutchman crossed the finish line, he was always on the podium this year.

09:28 am

Regenerate

That was faster than expected, it is raining again in Istanbul. That can be a fun event on FT3, if it rains now …

Tost: AlphaTauri doesn’t have the third fastest car

Conditions in Istanbul make it difficult to establish a pecking order before qualifying. Basically, AlphaTauri made a strong impression recently in midfield. Some even believe that they currently have the third fastest car after Mercedes and Red Bull. “I would doubt it,” said team boss Franz Tost.

“If everything works, then the Racing Point car is a little bit faster, and Renault is also very fast,” said the Austrian, who also said: “We are close to all these teams, including McLaren.” It always depends on the race and the track ahead. He definitely has “confidence” for Turkey and the rest of the season.

09:03 am

Rain at night

For me it is already one of the stories of the year: in Istanbul, the rental cars took to the track at night to improve grip. The idea itself is not that stupid, but sadly it rained afterwards. So the grip grew again … Today it is still dry in Istanbul.

But in FT3 it should be about getting a new grip. To make matters worse, there is no support program this weekend, there is only Formula 1 on the track. So there is no other series that can help with this. Let’s see if there is a similar slide to yesterday in just under an hour.
