The Tuscany GP
Currently on the Formula 1 live ticker: +++ What’s happening for Vettel from starting position 14? +++ Ferrari celebrates its 1000th Mugello Grand Prix +++ Race start at 15:10 hours +++
What strategies are there?
Let’s get on with it immediately. According to Pirelli, a two-stop strategy is theoretically the fastest option today. Either soft-medium-soft or (somewhat slower) soft-medium-medium. A single window strategy is slower on paper. In practice, however, it could be faster if overtaking really becomes as difficult as many hope. So that would be an opportunity for Ferrari and Vettel to bet a little here. Although I’m not sure if everyone in the top 10 will actually bet on two stops. If it somehow works, you should try to stop there as well.
A safety car like the last one at Monza, of course, could spoil it all again …
Ferrari sees the P14 as an “opportunity” for Vettel
At Ferrari, only Leclerc has a good starting position for the anniversary GP with fifth place on the grid. Vettel will only start from P14. “Charles felt much more comfortable here with the car from the beginning. It took Sebastian a little longer to get kind of comfortable with him as well. He’s coming slowly. The differences are very close,” explains sporting director Laurent Mekies.
“He’s at the other end of the midfield. For the race we have to be very open-minded about possible strategies, tires and so on. Then maybe we can turn the starting position into an opportunity,” Mekies said. What it means: The top 10 start today on soft tires. It looks like Vettel will be sent on the run on an alternate strategy.
