Does that sound like resignation?
Meanwhile, there is uncertainty on social media as to whether Vettel’s words in the Ferrari press release cannot be interpreted as a resignation not only of Ferrari, but also of Formula 1. Vettel says: “What happened in recent months It has made many of us think about what our real priorities are in life. ” That leaves room for speculation.
Former pilot and television expert Martin Brundle interprets the situation differently. “Vettel is definitely in negotiations with at least one other team, so it cannot be a resignation,” he writes on Twitter. “The press release makes it clear that it wasn’t about money. It can’t be about their performance, so it must be about status and control, and it must have been sparked by the hurtful events of 2019.”
Great expression of respect from peers.
With his long-term contract and the prospect of a glorious future at Ferrari, Charles Leclerc could not be completely innocent of the divorce between Vettel and Ferrari. He quickly reacted to the message on Twitter this morning, as if it wasn’t a surprise to him.
“It was a great honor for me to be his teammate,” are his warm words. “We had some difficult moments on the track, some very good and some that did not end as we had imagined. But there was always respect, even if that was not often perceived from the outside.”
“I’ve never learned as much as you have as a teammate. Thanks for everything, Seb.”
The bomb officially exploded
In the meantime, the coffee should have worked for you already, and breakfast may have created the first thrill. And after our preliminary nightly information, it is now official: Vettel will leave Ferrari! You can read the voices and information the team released about this here.

Don’t be fooled: we were the first!
With the newspaper ‘Bild’ and ‘auto motor und sport’, two other established media exclusively claim the story about the departure of Sebastian Vettel from Ferrari. Don’t let that irritate you! Our story went online on Monday night at 11:42 p.m. No one else had the scoop. Verifiable.
The newspaper ‘Bild’ came online with its report at 00:54 on Tuesday morning, that is, 1:12 hours after the first publication in ‘Motorsport-Total.com’ and the sister portals’ Formel1.de ‘and’ motorsport.com ‘.
The colleagues from ‘auto motor und sport’ did a bit of a trick. They suggest that their report on the Vettel hammer was released on Monday. But it was not like that. The portal’s RSS feed clearly reveals that the story only went online on Tuesday (00:23) and that the portal apparently dated earlier than Monday.
But I swam about it. The most attentive readers noted where they were first informed.
Signs that Ferrari’s Vettel departure could be imminent have increased on Monday. He got serious on Monday night. I (actually was on vacation) was already in bed when my cell phone rang at 10:40 pm, to the delight, as you can imagine, my partner (who at this moment for his infinite patience with me and my second great love, the task with this portal should be appreciated, but only in passing).
Already in this first call, the specific information on the history of Vettel could be summarized in a credible and detailed way. At 11:07 p.m. (the story was already finished at the time), a second phone call followed to secure the content and verify the details. Until the release button was pressed at 11:42 p.m. More than an hour before the competition.
By the way: not everything we know at the moment appeared in history. Not because we want to hide something from the readers or because we are not sure enough about the accuracy of the data. But because of course it is extremely important that no one can deduce where our information comes from based on secondary details. Because source protection is our top priority.
And the most important thing we can report: Sebastian Vettel, a sentence that is not so easy to overcome (lips), will leave Ferrari after six years together.
PS: Critical readers have noticed via Twitter that our story is out of the ordinary because Vettel’s dream of the Ferrari title has not yet come to an end, after all he still has a shot at the World Cup in 2020. Right! And it doesn’t necessarily have to be 14 Ferrari wins before he leaves. Formulations that we adjust later. Mea culpa!
Vettel: Now what?
Let’s look at the options team by team. Ferrari finally left on Monday. Red Bull recently announced that Vettel is too expensive and that it’s better to focus on Max Verstappen. A no-forever or just a Helmut Marko poker? If Vettel is willing to drive alongside Verstappen for moderate money (unlikely), Red Bull could be an option. But it probably isn’t.
Of the current top three teams, only Mercedes remains. A variant that our expert Marc Surer would like, as recently revealed in the great video show of the Formula 1 podcast ‘Starting Grid’. Solo: As long as Lewis Hamilton drives Mercedes, that’s not a problem. And it is still unclear whether Mercedes 2021 will continue to run Grand Prix Sport with its own team.
Other than the top three teams, only McLaren and Renault remain reasonably attractive options that could irritate Vettel. Both are said to have already presented him with a specific offer, Italian media reports. In the case of Renault, in our opinion, this could be true, although the French have recently stated that one would rather trust young talent than former world champions. In McLaren’s case, the reports of a contract offer on the table are not true, according to our information.
And then there is Aston Martin. Excuse me, Aston Martin, then Racing Point? Admittedly, this falls into the “long shot” category, as our English friends would call it. But Vettel appreciates that Toto Wolff has not been known since he invited the Mercedes team boss in his 30s. And Wolff has just invested more than € 40 million in an Aston Martin share package. Wolff’s friend Lawrence Stroll is currently injecting a lot of money into the aspiring Racing Point team. We stick to English sayings: the strangest things have happened before …

What’s next
Currently we can only speculate on this. Carlos Sainz, the sparrows have been singing from the rooftops for a few days, he has already agreed with Ferrari. However, the important modalities still need to be clarified before Spanish changes. His contract with McLaren runs through the end of 2020. However, this is likely to include extension options. Therefore, it is very possible that you can only sign with Ferrari if McLaren gives you the green light.
It is unclear who will take Sainz’s place at McLaren. Vettel is known as a good friend of crew chief Andreas Seidl. A change would be logical, at least in the eyes of former Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone: Vettel doesn’t see Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto “as the follower he needs in his situation. Sebastian should stop or look for alternatives by 2021 ” McLaren, then again with Mercedes engines, could be one of those, “Ecclestone recently told ‘F1-Insider.com’.
But: McLaren will do a great job of engaging with a driver this early. With Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo, two first-class players are on the market, which would fit well in the profile. Ricciardo’s departure from Renault is just a matter of form in industry circles. He has had enough of the French factory team after two unsuccessful years because he sees no chance of fighting for the world title for years to come. He doesn’t say officially, but you can hear it from his surroundings.
