Former Liverpool FC manager Gerard Houllier passes away

Former coach Gerard Houllier, a 2001 UEFA Cup winner with Liverpool FC, has died at the age of 73. This was confirmed by his former clubs Paris St. Germain and RC Lens on Monday.

Houllier was France’s national coach from the summer of 1992 to December 1993, with PSG (1986) and Olympique de Lyon (2006, 2007) winning the national championship.

Houllier had his best moment in Liverpool. In the 2000/01 season he won the UEFA Cup with the Reds by 5: 4 in the Dortmund final against Deportivo Alaves, in the same year he led Liverpool to success in the FA Cup with German national players Dietmar Hamann and Markus Babbel, League Cup and UEFA Super Cup.

In 2011, Houllier retired from the coaching profession for health reasons. In June 2012, Houllier became Global Sporting Director of Red Bull GmbH football clubs, and was also a member of the Technical Study Group of the FIFA world association.
