The European Football Association (UEFA) will again allow fans to attend international matches next week, starting with international matches. As announced on Thursday, a maximum of 30 percent of the stadium capacity can be used for national team matches and also for Champions League and Europa League group stage matches, but only if so it is approved by national authorities.
This means, for example, that 3,000 spectators are allowed in the Klagenfurt Wörthersee stadium for the test match between Austria and Greece on Wednesday. According to UEFA, around 9,000 people could go through the turnstiles, but the coronavirus requirements in Austria only allow a maximum of 3,000.
As of current status, this limit also applies to Red Bull Salzburg Champions League matches and Rapid and WAC Europa League matches. The condition for this is that all visitors keep their distance and wear mouth and nose protection. Visiting fans cannot participate in international matches until further notice.
“Sensible first step”
“This decision is a sensible first step in which the health of the fans is paramount and the laws of each country are respected. While we all face a common enemy in Covid, different countries have different approaches and different challenges at any given time, ”UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin said following the Executive Committee’s decision.
All qualifying matches this season of the European Cup passed without a spectator due to the coronavirus pandemic.
