To quickly discover a possible corona infection during cold and flu season, there is now the option of taking a quick test in the so-called checkboxes in Vienna.
In Vienna, there is now another possibility for people who are not sure if they have a cold, flu or coronavirus infection to get tested quickly and easily: the first checkboxes will open tomorrow Thursday. The location is on Favoriten near Laaerbergbad, another on Mildeplatz in Ottakring. These are container arrangements in which doctors are also present.
Rapid Corona tests in container sorting
“This is a move that is intended to ease our established ordinances,” said City Health Councilor Peter Hacker (SPÖ), explaining the idea behind the checkboxes at a press meeting on Wednesday. The objective is to keep the sanitary facilities free of Corona as much as possible, on the one hand to protect the employees and so that the waiting areas themselves do not become places of infection by Covid-19.
The project was developed in cooperation with the Medical Association, the doctors deployed are provided by the medical radio service. Symptomatic people should be screened for infection immediately by rapid test on doctor’s office containers during cold and flu season. If the result is negative, the doctor who is present will treat you on the spot. In the case of a positive result, that is, a proven corona infection, the doctor will declare a discharge and the patient must go into quarantine.
30 Corona checkboxes provided throughout Vienna – appointment required
The plan is to install 30 such sorting containers across the city by early December. If someone wants to be tested there, they must make an appointment in advance through the website of the medical radio service (http://www.141wien.at). Registrations are now possible.
Appointments are available daily between 7 am and 7 pm in ten-minute spaces. “We ask you to understand that you can’t come here. We don’t want long lines and people freezing with cold and coughing,” Hacker said.
The risk of infection in ordinations and ambulances is reduced.
The vice president of the Vienna Medical Association, Johannes Steinhart, sees the checkboxes as a very good solution to regulate the flow of patients and, at the same time, ensure safety in the ordinations and outpatient departments. “The other sick people have not left. Everyone should go to the ordinations now. We cannot need any collateral damage and at the same time, we have to get the pandemic under control.”
