Due to the increasing number of coronaviruses, the first hospitals in Styria are already banning visits and bans on patient admission.

From October 23 to 27, 70 new corona patients had to be treated in Styrian hospitals. A number that sounds the alarms in Steiermärkische Krankenanstaltengesellschaft (Kages). Due to the increasing number of new infections, crown beds could now be tight, the first visit bans are meant to protect patients, caregivers and doctors.

Alarming situation

State hospitals as well as Judenburg and Knittelfeld (LKH Murtal) have banned visits. In the latter there are currently 90 K1 contact persons (patients and employees) in “Corona”.

At the western location of LKH Graz II, the hospital with the highest number of patients, according to the “Kleine Zeitung” a visit ban is being discussed, as is the southern location. At the western location, capacities are being expanded, as well as at the Graz University Hospital. In Upper Austria, operations that are not immediately necessary have already begun to be postponed. In addition, the pension staff must be brought. Similar considerations already exist in Styria.

Corona cluster in southern Styria

At Wagna hospital (Leibnitz district), where there is a corona group with more than 30 employees and sick patients (“Today” reported), a patient admission freeze and a visitation ban were issued. Patient flows are sent to Deutschlandsberg and Voitsberg.

However: According to Kages, 194 normal care beds and 31 intensive care beds are currently occupied in hospitals in Styria (as of October 27); maximum occupancy (488 normal care beds / 101 intensive care beds) is still a long way off. The crown peak was in the spring of 176 Covid 19 patients, 32 of them in the intensive care unit.
