The first around 10,000 doses of the Biontech / Pfizer corona vaccine arrived in Vienna on Saturday. A refrigerated truck with a large infrastructure inside, escorted by police vehicles, delivered the valuable goods in Stefanitag.
The long-awaited products were then received at the Herba Chemosan Apotheker AG sales office in Simmering. From the wholesaler’s warehouse, around 10,000 servings are distributed throughout Austria.
First vaccination on Sunday
In addition to Vienna, immunization takes place on Sundays in Upper and Lower Austria, Styria, Salzburg, Vorarlberg and Tyrol, mainly in homes for the elderly and the elderly. More deliveries are expected in Austria from Monday, a larger one on New Year’s Eve. Austria participates in the start of vaccination at the same time throughout the EU.
Live from 10 am: press conference after the first vaccines
975 cans per state
According to the Federal Chancellor, up to 975 cans can be ordered per federal state. “They’re packaged that way,” he explained at a press conference in Vienna, “we can’t just cut them up.”
Vorarlberg also vaccinates on Sunday
In Vorarlberg, the first vaccinations will take place on Sunday in a nursing home in Höchst.
In Lower Austria, vaccinations against the coronavirus start on Sunday afternoon in St. Pölten. The State Health Agency (LGA) Nursing and Care Center Day Center and Caritas St. Elisabeth Nursing Home have been selected as locations, it was announced Tuesday afternoon. Residents and employees should get vaccinated.
Vaccination in the elderly and nursing homes
In Upper Austria, residents and employees of the Sierning district retirement and old people’s home in the Steyr-Land district will be vaccinated on Sunday with the 40 doses allocated from the first birth. The next calendar foresees that starting January 12, residents and employees of nursing homes and nursing homes will be vaccinated by attending physicians and hospital staff.
The federal state of Salzburg will also start the Covid 19 vaccination next Sunday. It begins with the home of an elderly person in the city of Salzburg, such as the LHStv health official. Christian Stöckl (ÖVP) informed. For this first vaccination, 80 doses of Biontech / Pfizer vaccine will arrive throughout Sunday, which are intended for residents and employees of the nursing home, a Stöckl spokesman said on request.
Second vaccination in three weeks
People who will be vaccinated on Sunday, December 27, should receive the second vaccine in about three weeks. To avoid media hype in view of the first vaccination in Salzburg and to allow for a quiet process, the location of the old people’s home was not officially named.
The next doses of vaccine are expected to arrive in Salzburg around January 10, so it will be supplied to residents and employees of other nursing homes. In the first leg of the first and second calendar weeks of the new year, around 65,000 doses of vaccine are expected to arrive in Salzburg. This amount results from the key population, because the federal government expects one million doses of vaccine.
With these 65,000 doses of vaccination, 32,500 people in Salzburg can get vaccinated twice, the health official said. In the first phase of vaccination, it is the turn of health establishments, hospitals, nursing homes and health centers. Vaccination is done on the spot. Because there are trained vaccination personnel there, the process is expected to run smoothly.
“Step-by-step coordinated plan”
In Tyrol, the first doses of coronavirus vaccine will likely also be administered on Sunday. The vaccinations will be carried out in a residential and nursing home in central Tyrol, the state said. In the first half of January, the state will have 24,000 doses of vaccines available. At the lodge they are currently working on creating a “coordinated step-by-step plan” for the process.
The situation is different in Carinthia. There will be no corona shots there on Sunday. Governor Peter Kaiser (SPÖ) rejected the offer because the cost of the ten doses of vaccines the state received on Sunday was too high, the state press service said at the request of the APA. Instead, focus on the best preparation possible and start vaccinating on January 12.
Vaccinations only in January
Burgenland is also sticking to the previous plan and will likely only start coronavirus vaccines in January, the Coronavirus Coordination Office said at the request of the APA. In the first installment, around 5,800 doses of vaccines will be available. Vaccines should be administered mainly in the area of nursing homes and for the elderly, as well as in social institutions.
Also in Styria, the start of vaccination for the first large batch of around 35,000 vaccine doses will be around 12 January. However, it cannot be ruled out that before this, that is, on December 27, only a very small number of doses can be given in a nursing home symbolically for the start of vaccination. As soon as the relevant date is fixed, the state of Styria wishes to publish it.
