A 20-year-old firefighter was arrested and allegedly started 14 fires in the local area of Kirchdorf an der Krems (Upper Austria) since September. On Thursday night, the man was caught red-handed.
The corona-infected firefighter likely set four waste paper containers on fire Thursday night. According to the police, the accused should currently be in quarantine.
The man started fires to put them out himself
During his interrogation, the detainee not only confessed to those four fires on Thursday night. He also admitted ten more since September. In a fire on September 3, flames spread to two apartment buildings, injuring two people. As a reason, the young man stated that he had started the fires so that he could put them out himself as a respirator.
Tens of thousands of euros in damages
The estimated material damage is several tens of thousands of euros. The defendant is reported not only on suspicion of various arson but also for being in deliberate danger from communicable diseases.
