In the case of a USB stick with sensitive data that was found outside Feldkirch Prison and allegedly misplaced by an officer in Feldkirch Prison, a factual statement was sent to the Innsbruck Public Prosecutor for criminal investigation.

In addition, an employee of the Feldkirch prison had been temporarily suspended from his duties in the matter, the Ministry of Justice informed the APA that requested it.

The case became known in mid-August 2020. An officer is said to have lost a USB stick with confidential and sensitive data outside the prison in a bicycle rack, reported the “Kronen Zeitung” at the time, who had been informed about the matter. The person who found the data carrier is said to have sent it anonymously to the data protection authority. In addition to the private photos of the woman, there are said to have been minutes of internal service affairs and meetings with the Liechtenstein police chief, notices about requests for ankle cuffs and requests from embassies, all with the full names of those involved.

Procedures not yet started

The Justice Department opened an investigation into the incident. According to the Ministry, a criminal investigation into the matter has been entrusted to the Innsbruck Prosecutor’s Office. Furthermore, a prison employee had been temporarily suspended “to obtain evidence”. “Disciplinary proceedings have not yet started,” he said. Currently no further information can be provided. According to unconfirmed information, the employee’s cell phone is said to have been seized in addition to the computer.
