Due to the massive snowfall in recent days, one of the most important connections on the main Alpine ridge, the Felbertauernstrasse between Salzburg and East Tyrol, has been completely closed. The reason for the blockade was “avalanche danger,” he said on the ÖAMTC homepage on Sunday night.

Therefore, East Tyrol can only be reached within Austria via a major detour – via the Tauern Autobahn (A10) from the rest of Tyrol.

The closure affects both directions of traffic on the toll road between Mittersill (Pinzgau) and Matrei in East Tyrol (Lienz district). However, there were also obstacles in the potential alternative route. In the direction of Villach, the Wolfsberg tunnel on the A10 near Spittal was closed due to a truck standing on its side.
