The worst fears have not come true: Bayern leader Joshua Kimmich “only” suffered an indefinite injury to the right lateral meniscus at the top of the Bundesliga at Borussia Dortmund and has already been successfully intervened.
The FCB announced Sunday night. The club also assumes that the 25-year-old will return to the field in January.
“We are happy that Joshua will probably be available to us again in a few weeks. We will give him the best possible support in his rehabilitation,” said Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic.
Kimmich sprained his knee in the 34th minute from a foul on Erling Haaland in the German champions’ 3-2 win at BVB. The midfielder left the field crying and supported by two coaches. At first, a cruciate ligament tear did not seem to be ruled out either. But on Sunday the mild diagnosis followed halfway through.
For Kimmich, however, it is the first major injury in his career thus far. The external ligament was only torn in 2014, at that time still in the service of RB Leipzig.
What consequences does Kimmich’s injury have for Bayern? Here is the analysis of SPOX and Goal.
