Rummenigge on Messi: “If you knew what he deserves …”
The tablecloth between the superstar Lionel Messi and FC Barcelona seems finally cut. The Argentine who is willing to change has not completed the mandatory crown test before the Catalans start training and is determined to leave the club. “Messi goes to war against Barcelona”, the headline of the newspaper “Marca” was martial. And the 33-year-old doesn’t really want to give in.
So now the lawyers should have the floor. Messi’s lawyers believe that their client can leave the club, whose jersey has been 20 years old, for free. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the deadline to withdraw the exit clause (June 10) should be considered extended until the end of the season. The other side argues that Messi missed the deadline so that a transfer fee must also be paid when switching. The (little) catch: actually, it’s set at € 700 million.
In this case, the group of serious stakeholders for the exceptional striker would be highly elitist. Messi himself would likely prefer to move to Manchester City, where his longtime supporter Pep Guardiola has been chasing a renewed Champions League triumph for years, as he did at Bayern Munich.
Of course, French champion Paris St. Germain would also have the necessary change. “L’Equipe” put another variant into play at the weekend. The French sports daily reported that Turin Juventus had also entered poker to be the six-time world footballer of the year. In the favorite position, however, it is still ManCity.
Rummenigge on Messi: “If you knew …”
However, Bayern Munich, who just won the Champions League and may be facing a new great era, have no interest in Messi. CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge emphasized this again in an interview with “Welt.”
He would regret Messi leaving Barcelona, Rummenigge said. He came to Barcelona as a young man and is actually the type of player who should end his career at this club.
But there is another reason for Bayern’s lack of interest: “If you knew what he won, you wouldn’t be sitting here so calmly anymore”explains Rummenigge with a laugh. That’s why Bayern never took care of Messi.
