The Red Cross in Freistadt district is very understanding after Karin L. from Linz lost her life in a serious traffic accident in Wartberg ob der Aist (district) on Monday. An ambulance pulled into the opposite lane on Königswiesener Straße (B124) and struck the 59-year-old’s car in the area of the driver’s door. The woman was so seriously injured that she died at the crash site, we reported.

The 22-year-old driver involved in an accident and his two colleagues heading for an operation were almost unharmed. The young driver is in shock. “We have a job where we want to help others, that makes the situation very, very difficult,” says Gerald Roth, Freistadt district rescue commander, in an interview with OÖN. The sympathy belongs to the family of Karin L. But the young paramedic is also cared for by his colleagues. “He has no physical injuries, but the psychological strain is very strong. While he was still in the hospital, he was cared for by colleagues who specialize in dealing with stress after stressful assignments,” says Roth. In general, the situation is not easy. “Assignments in protective suits, during which it is not known whether patients are infected with Corona or sick, are a psychological burden.”

According to police, it is not yet clear why the full-time paramedic got into the opposite lane on the cleared stretch of road. The Linz prosecutor ordered an autopsy on the victim and confiscated the two vehicles involved in the accident for an expert control. (mpk)
