Pierre Cardin revolutionized fashion and built a true empire in more than 70 years; now, the designer died at the age of 98 in Paris. French media reported, citing his family.

With Cardin, France has lost one of fashion’s greatest visionaries: she put her couture models in plastic jumpsuits, designed fashions for the masses, made underwear that was sold in discount stores, and marketed her name as no other.

“Enfant terrible” der Mode

He was the first couturier to launch a ready-to-wear collection. He was the first in his field to offer his brand for countless products such as mineral water, cutlery, record players, bedding, watches and automobiles. Which also made Cardin one of the richest men in France.

The designer has never lacked self-confidence. The fact that he was called the “terrible boy” in his branch had never bothered him. You can find your ideas everywhere, explained your unlimited creativity. A fireplace and vase could also inspire you.

The designer was born in Italy on July 2, 1922, the son of a French wine merchant. After the end of World War II he went to Paris and began working as a fashion designer at the Casa Paquin. Shortly thereafter he moved to Christian Dior, where he helped create the legendary “New Look” in 1947. Three years later, he founded his own company and soon had a reputation for making the finest men’s suits and costumes in all of Paris.

The designer said that he always looked ahead than others. And Cardin did not refuse anything, he could pay anything, as he once stated in an interview. And so, in 2001, Pierre Cardin bought the castle of the Marquis de Sade in Lacoste in southern France, had a futuristic holiday home built on the Côte d’Azur (one of the most expensive villas in France), and opened his own museum in Paris. For posterity he leaves behind a fashion empire consisting of hundreds of factories and licenses around the world.
