The additional income limit to receive family allowances will be increased by 5,000 euros. The regulation is aimed primarily at students.
The additional income limit to receive family allowances will be increased from 10,000 to 15,000 euros as of this year. The Council of Ministers decided on Wednesday. This means that individual students can earn more on top of their education without losing their grants.
Increased additional income limit intended primarily for students
Currently, from age 20, only € 10,000 gross of taxable income can be earned per calendar year for the full receipt of benefits. If this limit is exceeded, the part for which it was overdrawn must be refunded.
The regulation is aimed primarily at students. However, other adults in vocational training and people with significant disabilities may also be affected, according to a press release from the Ministry of Labor, which is also responsible for the family burden compensation fund, with which the family allowance is financed.
Aschbacher: Raising him brings more flexibility to youngsters
“Raising the additional income limit for family allowances is an essential step towards greater flexibility for young people,” said Labor Minister Christine Aschbacher (ÖVP). This also strengthens the financial security of students. “For many young people, especially students, a job is the first important step towards financial independence,” emphasized Finance Minister Gernot Blümel (ÖVP). “By increasing the additional income limit for the family allowance from € 10,000 to € 15,000, we want to encourage young people to take advantage of this opportunity without losing the family allowance.”
