The world’s largest online network is stepping up its action against the “QAnon” conspiracy theory movement. All Facebook pages and groups will be removed, as well as all Instagram accounts representing “QAnon”.
Facebook has announced that it will take stronger action against the “QAnon” conspiracy story. Pages, groups and accounts also on the Instagram network belonging to Facebook that “represent QAnon” should be removed, the company announced Tuesday.
Followers of “QAnon” spread the story without any evidence that US President Donald Trump is fighting a secret elite that is trafficking children. By the theory, there should be an anonymous government official known as “Q” sharing information about a “deep state” against Trump. The supposed shadow state in the state is often associated with Satanism and the sexual exploitation of children.
According to Facebook, factors that can lead to a ban include the name, bio, or information about the page, as well as discussions in the group or on the page. Personal accounts of group administrators who are banned are also blocked.
A few weeks ago, Facebook announced that it would no longer advertise the groups and would remove them if they promoted violence. The new regulations should take effect on Tuesday. Facebook announced that implementation would take time and will be implemented in the “next days and weeks.”
In recent years, the story of “QAnon” has been spread in secret Facebook groups, on Twitter accounts and on YouTube videos. “QAnon” has been linked to acts of violence such as kidnapping. Followers also believe that the coronavirus is a hoax. Several Republican Congressional candidates sympathize with the narrative.
