European League

Austria’s remaining representatives in the UEFA Europa League await in the top 32 hurdles round. Wolfsberger AC, who reached the knockout round for the first time, faced England leaders Tottenham Hotspur in the draw at UEFA headquarters in Nyon. For the third time in the recent past, FC Salzburg have to face traditional Spanish club Villarreal.

The Wolfsbergers left Feyenoord Rotterdam and CSKA Moscow behind in the group stage and can now look forward to real pleasure as their reward in the sixteenth final. The North London “Spurs” are making a guest appearance in Austria for the second time. In the group stage, Tottenham already played in a group with LASK.

Salzburg, who were able to go to the Europa League as third in the Champions League, will face Villarreal for the third time on the European stage. In the group stage of the 2009/10 Europa League, the “Bulls” won twice (1-0 away, 2-0 at home). The most recent duels with the “yellow submarine” have less memory: in the 2014/15 season, Villarreal became a stumbling block in the round of 32 with a 3-1 victory in Salzburg and a 2-1 victory in House.

Both ÖFB representatives have their first meetings at home. The first sections are lifted on February 18, the second on February 25. According to UEFA, the WAC will be in London on Wednesday 24 February, because Tottenham’s rival Arsenal will play their second leg against the traditional Portuguese Benfica at home.
