Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen published a speech about the upcoming end of the second shutdown. Thanks to all those who, by observing the measures, contribute to reducing the daily number of infections again.

But, says Van der Bellen: “The current situation also shows that the danger is not over with the end of the hard lock. Now we must do everything possible to avoid a yo-yo effect. An effect that sets in when it has been controlled for during a long time, then believe you have achieved your goal and let it go again. “

Change lifestyle

A yo-yo effect can only be prevented by a change in lifestyle and planned action. “And we have to do it together now during the holidays and the winter.”

It is very important to continue to adhere to the Corona rules: wash your hands, keep your distance, wear mouth and nose protection, ventilate well and now – take a test. “Please go there! We can all use this to significantly limit the spread of the virus,” says Van der Bellen.

Vaccination is possible quickly

Regarding the upcoming vaccination, the federal president said: “The fact that vaccination is possible even so quickly shows how efficiently and cooperatively humanity can act across borders when it really matters.”

The third extremely important point is the structure of the economy. “I would like an orderly and systematic plan of how our economy and our many jobs will continue. There are many open questions that are extremely important in planning the economy: For example: What about tax deferrals?” What will happen to guarantees state? What about equity? What is a good home office arrangement? And so on. These questions must be carefully balanced in a plan and considered together. ”

Talk to all parties

At the end of the speech, Van der Bellen says: “If we all stick to it now, if those in charge act carefully, then we can do it together. And then summer will come faster than we think.”

Federal President Van der Bellen has held talks with all the parliamentary parties in recent days. The highest government was with him to report on the imminent end of the shutdown and the first steps.
