Formula 1 legend Gerhard Berger had to undergo an emergency operation, but is back on the race track.
Before the end of the season in Hockenheim, the DTM boss reported in Sport 1: “I went to the doctor because I had a little pain in the stomach area. Actually, nothing major. The doctor was quite excited after looking at the X-rays: ‘Mr Berger, you need an operation will.’ “
The former racing driver received surgical treatment last Tuesday and wanted to negotiate the date: “I suggested Friday. Then I would have fewer appointments.”
But the situation was dire, Berger describes his doctor’s reaction with a smile: “I’m talking about the next two hours. You’re about to have a ruptured appendix.”
The 61-year-old survived the operation well and is back on track, the end of the DTM season at Hockenheim is on the agenda.
“I can say that the whole year went to the substance. So I’m happy to get some rest on Monday. But you have to bite your teeth to achieve something. I learned that from Bernie Ecclestone,” he says. Berger too.
