Eleven more cases of the South African coronavirus mutation were confirmed in Tyrol on Wednesday night. Some of the samples are several weeks old.
Most of the samples that have now been evaluated come from the Schwaz hospital. The Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) confirmed this Wednesday that at least eleven cases are the South African mutation of the coronavirus. The country also confirmed the report.
The samples come from people who tested positive for Covid-19 weeks ago. The oldest sample is reportedly from the previous year and was taken on December 23. As a result of the spread of the “British” mutation as part of general surveillance, the samples were sent to Vienna for sequencing in mid-January, where they were analyzed by experts from the Austrian Academy of Sciences. Therefore, there are already a total of 18 confirmed cases of the South African mutant in Tyrol.
