Johannes Eggestein scored a historic flawless hat trick on Wednesday night. His three goals (2nd, 15th, 34th) in a 3-0 home win over Vienna City Division ASK Elektra in the round of 16 of the football ÖFB Cup were his last in a competitive match at the old stadium in Linz. The construction of the new stadium is scheduled to begin in early 2021, the Upper Austrian Bundesliga club intends to invest 65 million euros in the new “Raiffeisen Arena”, which has a capacity for 20,000 spectators.

“My three goals and the fact that we left the stadium with a victory, of course I am very happy,” said the 22-year-old German in an interview with the ORF. A four-pack would have been possible, but pole position prevented it in the 63rd minute. His team also scored three more aluminum shots.

“It could have ended well and happily 7-0, we are a bit upset about that, but in the cup it’s about getting through a round and we did it with a lot of confidence,” said the Werder Bremen loaned forward. Coach Dominik Thalhammer also saw it this way: “We are one lap ahead, that’s the main thing in the cup.” The new stadium should open in the summer of 2022 and play will begin in the 2022/23 season.
