In the knockout stages of the Uniqua ÖFB Cup, LASK hosted the losers from ASK Elektra. Linz’s hosts showed no nudity and advanced to the cup quarter-finals with a 3-0 victory over the Vienna city division. The standout man among the athletes was once again goalkeeper Johannes Eggestein, who set up a hat trick before the half-time whistle and also the last one. With the second round of the Cup an era ends: the duel against Elektra was the last match at the Linzer Gugl.
Eggestein shines with a hat trick
ASK Elektra came through Taner Sen to the first conclusion of the game (1st), but LASK set the course for victory from the start: less than 90 seconds after kick-off, Elektra’s bell rang for the first time. Johannes Eggestein received an excellent service from Mas Emil Møller Madsen, the Linz striker kept calm and edged past goalkeeper Kostner to make it 1-0 (2nd). LASK was subsequently unimpressed by the Vienna City League opponents either, and Eggestein gave them another great opportunity in the 9th minute of the game, but Kostner closed the door well. But the LASK-Express kept rolling in one direction. In the 15th minute of the game, Eggestein scored his second goal of the night, after an assisting cyclist charged the opposing goalkeeper with a bodily deception: 2-0. ASK Elektra didn’t have time to breathe, LASK kept playing. At first, Renner missed the goal by just a few inches (20 °), then Michorl only hit the crossbar with a great free kick (23 °), and Eggestein put together his impeccable hat trick. At the height of the penalty spot, the German retreated and welded the ball into the left corner of the cross – Kostner could only watch. With the deserved 3-0 he went to rest.
The post prevents worse
Even after the break, LASK had plenty of opportunities without much effort. In the last half hour in particular, LASK reduced its efforts a bit, depending on the score. Elektra’s defense was unable to counter the joy of playing Linz, only the edge of the goal prevented an even bigger victory for the Thalhammer-Elf. Rene Renner, for example, hit the ball with full force on the crossbar, a Goiginger attempt rolled from the inside post along the goal line (59th) and hat-trick scorer Eggestein also missed the post. (63º). Ranftl also took the short glass off Kostner (75th), Madsen also missed due to the Elektra goalkeeper, who managed to draw attention to himself with some good deeds.
With the easy 3-0 win against ASK Elektra, LASK is not only in the ÖFB Cup quarter-finals, but also gave the legendary Linzer Gugl a dignified send-off. The stadium will soon be demolished after 68 years and replaced with a modern stadium.
