E-scooter exploded: apartment in Wels fell victim to flames

The apartment on the fourth floor of a residential and commercial building is almost completely burned out and uninhabitable. The balcony and parts of the facade were also affected. A 21-year-old had plugged in his electric scooter to charge it. There was an explosion that started the fire, the state police department reported Thursday.

No one was injured in the fire. “The residents of the burning apartment immediately alerted the neighbors and left the area,” reports Markus Marehard, chief of operations for the city’s fire brigade.

When the emergency services arrived, flames erupted from the balcony, the fire already spreading upstairs, as can be seen in the photos of the Wels fire department. When police arrived at the building at 9:17 p.m., in addition to firefighters, there were also numerous bystanders at the scene, the broadcast said.

Before the fire department arrived, the flames were already coming out of the balcony.

“We took the e-scooter outside and then put it in a cold water bath,” says Marehard.

He and his colleagues received support from the Fritsch Company Fire Department. Police and Red Cross paramedics, as well as the emergency doctor, were on duty.
