In Slovakia, the internal government dispute over internationally recognized mass corona tests has escalated. That is why on Monday it was completely open if the next wave of tests announced by Prime Minister Igor Matovic for early December would be carried out across the country.
After the Conservative head of government again threatened sanctions against those who refused to take the tests on Sunday, liberal economy minister Richard Sulik questioned the government’s previous pandemic concept on Monday: “Fighting the corona virus is chaotic and ignores the opinions of experts, “said Sulik. in front of journalists in Bratislava.
Slovakia was the first state to hold mass crown tests across the country on All Saints’ Day weekend (October 31 and November 1). With the exception of children up to the age of ten, no one was allowed to go outside for two weeks without presenting a negative corona test. Also due to this threat of sanctions, 3.6 million of the 5.5 million inhabitants queued for hours in the first of several test rounds.
While Matovic bragged that the idea was being copied in Liverpool, South Tyrol and Austria, Slovak doctors criticized the impromptu implementation. Rapid tests, which in any case are inaccurate compared to PCR tests, were often misused due to lack of staff. There was no follow-up analysis by experts and no follow-up of contacts of those who tested positive. An anti-corruption initiative called for an investigation into what was believed to be an illegal order for millions of tests without a public tender.
