As of today, Sacher hotels are releasing 140 employees. 105 people are affected in Vienna and 35 in Salzburg, said Matthias Winkler of the Sacher hotels on the sidelines of a press meeting in Vienna on Tuesday. Reduced work remains for the rest of the workforce. “We don’t know if we can employ 30 percent of them as planned. A situation couldn’t be more dramatic,” Winkler said.

Sacher’s turnover this year will be only 25 percent of the previous one (previous year: around 100 million euros). Next year it will be “maybe 30 to 35 percent.”

Finance Minister Gernot Blümel (ÖVP) had invited an appointment with the representative of the EU Commission in Austria, Martin Selmayr, and businessmen to defend the extended fixed cost subsidy.

Because the commission viewed the latter critically. It also provides for 100 percent subsidies and lasts longer than in the first phase. The conversation continued in the morning.
