At the beginning of the EBEL season, the inhabitants of the fair will be invited to Westderby in Tyrol.
The ICE Hockey League betting at home begins on Friday, September 25, 2020, a new era of ice hockey. For the Dornbirn Bulldogs, the new era begins with a Western match against HC TWK Innsbruck “Die Haie”.
The first opponent Innsbruck starts the season with an inexperienced technical team. Head coach Mitch O’Keefe has only been Haie’s goalkeeping coach or assistant for the last two years of his coaching career. Assistant coach Florian Pedevilla didn’t finish his playing career until March of this year.
Last season, too, the Bulldogs fought Haien on the first day of the game. Emilio Romig scored the winning goal for Vorarlberg in extra time.
Experienced Dornbirn head coach Kai Suikkanen explained in an interview that preparing for next season with all the uncertainty and strict rules was even more difficult than taking over the team last season.

- As in the last two seasons, the 20/21 season will also open with a West Derby in Innsbruck. In 2018 and 2019 the Dornbirn Bulldogs prevailed in overtime. The first-round game for Vorarlberg’s entry into the league in 2012 was also for the Bulldogs after extra time.
- The two teams are playing their 43rd match against each other, Dornbirn has won 22 of them.
- Both teams opened their preseason against each other: HCI won 6-2 at home. Preparation was much more successful for HCI with three wins in four games. DEC only won the last Test against EC Bregenzerwald, losing two games before that.
- DEC defender Kevin Tansey will be out for several weeks. The Canadian has injured his hand and has already had a successful operation. Tansey is, after long-injured Lukas Bär, Haie’s second defender to make it through the first league game.
- Both teams made a major team change in the off-season.
