The short message service Twitter has provided a video shared by Donald Trump with the information that a manipulated video is shown in the tweet. The president of the United States shared a video in the tweet that had been distributed by another Twitter account.
In the video, it appears that Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden is pulling out his cell phone at a public event to play a song by the gangsta rap group NWA over the lectern microphones. The song caused a lot of public debate when it was released in 1988 due to its explicit, anti-racist lyrics and remains controversial among conservatives to this day.
In fact, Biden did not play the NWA song at the event, but the much more harmless song “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi. This is shown on the original recordings of the event in Kissimmee, Florida. If you compare the recordings directly, you can clearly hear that the rap track was added later. Twitter has linked a corresponding fact check in the warning from Trump’s tweet.
In less than two hours, Trump’s tweet had been shared about 15,000 times on Twitter. The embedded video was viewed more than three million times. It is not known how many users clicked on the Twitter warning.
Biden’s team criticizes Twitter’s advice
In the context of sometimes violent protests against police violence and racism, Trump presents himself as a representative of law and order in his election campaign. He accuses his challenger Joe Biden of wanting to make America unsafe. Biden responds, Trump stirs resentment and divides society.
A Twitter spokeswoman said Trump’s tweet received the warning due to his manipulative tendencies. A member of Biden’s campaign team described the move as inappropriate: “This is Trump’s second tweet with the manipulated video. The only clue you get is this little flag at the bottom of the image that they are ‘manipulated media.’ . “Initially, no statement was received from Trump’s election campaign team.
