The New York borough of Queens, September 5, 1997 – At the US Open tennis tournament, real estate entrepreneur Donald Trump sits in his VIP box with some guests. It is said that something happened that Friday that is now catching up with the current president of the United States, Trump.
Because one of the guests in the box was Amy Dorris, then 24 years old. She raises serious accusations against Trump in the British newspaper “Guardian”: he was sexually assaulted in front of the bathroom of the hostel, protected from other eyes by a screen.
“He just stuck his tongue in my mouth and I pushed it. Then his grip tightened,” the newspaper quoted Dorris. Trump’s hands were “on my butt, my breasts, my back.” She said “no” and asked him to stop. But “she didn’t care.” Trump was 51 at the time and married to his second wife, Marla Maples.
Trump’s lawyers speak out politically motivated allegations
According to the newspaper, statements from several people support Dorris’s statements. However, Trump’s attorneys told The Guardian that their client denied that Dorris had abused, abused or misbehaved with her. They argue that if there had been abuse, there should have been numerous witnesses at the shelter. Dorris never raised the matter with Trump or authorities.
In addition, the lawyers asked, according to The Guardian, why Dorris had returned to Trump’s box in the following days and attended a memorial service for the designer Gianni Versace with him and his then partner, a friend of Trump. When asked why she kept spending time with Trump, Dorris said she had traveled to New York with her then partner from Florida. “I had no money” and she had no other point of contact. And it was only later that she understood what had happened.
Trump’s lawyers said the fact that Dorris spoke so shortly before the US presidential election indicated that the allegations were politically motivated.
In fact, Dorris’s allegations are made public at a delicate moment: there are only a good six weeks left until the US presidential election. Supporters of Democratic candidate Joe Biden are likely to bet that the Guardian report will hurt Trump.
Dozens of women have accused Trump of sexual assault over the years
But they shouldn’t have too much hope – after all, Trump’s image of women is well documented. A 2005 recording appeared in the 2016 presidential election campaign. In it, Trump spoke with host Billy Bush and bragged about the sexual assault of women.
Additionally, more than two dozen women have accused Trump of sexual assault over the years. Some of them addressed the public in the 2016 election campaign. At the time, it seemed that the admission and indictments of women could destroy Trump’s political ambitions. Less than a month later, he was elected president and did not get rid of the positions in the White House.
The support of his fans has not diminished as a result. Trump has always denied the allegations, as with Dorris, in some cases on the note that women are not attractive enough to him.
“I’m sick of him getting away with it”
According to The Guardian, Dorris was considering going public with her allegations in 2016. Among other things, she chose not to do so because she feared the matter could harm her family.
This concern is still justified today. With the post, Dorris has likely drawn the ire of many Trump supporters. Meanwhile, Dorris says, her twin daughters are 13 years old. “I want you to see that I did not keep silent, that I faced someone who did something unacceptable.”
Furthermore, it is frustrating that women themselves are portrayed as liars. “I’m sick of him getting away with it,” she said of Trump.
