Table number 25. There, on Saturday, sat the Mhlviertel guest who tested positive for the coronavirus a day later. Who was still sitting there and at the six tables next to it is the most pressing question currently being asked by the health authorities of Upper Austria and the city of Linz. Because the guest list is handwritten, it is difficult to read and incomplete. Until now, no one could be reached at the specified phone numbers.
120 people attended a Turkish wedding at the Palais Kaufmnnischer Verein in Linz on Saturday. 70 more guests, as the country’s crisis team announced yesterday to ON.
“Unrealistic fixed places”
Because on Saturday, September 19, according to the legal situation in force at that time, only more than 50 people would have been allowed in the events in closed rooms if seats had been assigned. However, this must be understood as fixed places that – as in the theater, for example – are not left for the entire event. That’s not realistic at a wedding, even if there are business cards stationary on the tables.
The celebration in Linz has an additional aftertaste: some guests who also visited the Palais in Linz were part of the Turkish wedding party in Schrems, where, as reported, a group had formed. Yesterday, the number of those who tested positive rose to 27. The man from Mhlviertel, who complained of shortness of breath and mild fever the day after the wedding in Linz, was also invited to Schrems. He could have been infected there too.
The health authorities cannot rule out the possibility that other people have been infected in Linz, and above all ask the neighbors of the guest’s table who tested positive to report “as soon as possible” ( 0732 / 7070-0).
67 new infections in the country
Mayor Klaus Luger (SP) announced that “the wedding ceremony on Saturday took place before the stricter regulations went into effect on Monday.” Therefore, there were no “readjusted legal regulations” for the event.
Gerhard Zellinger, managing director of the Palais, said the event had been verified by a lawyer the day before: “We were allowed to hold the celebration because fixed seats were assigned. The government decree at the time did not explicitly address weddings. We had a concept of prevention. ”Gabriele Hofstetter, a supplier of houses and gardens at the Palais since 1989, made it clear that her company did not participate in the celebration.
In Upper Austria there were 67 new infections yesterday, the clusters at a parcel service provider (122) and at a meat processing company (61) have increased slightly. Four students and a teacher tested positive. (against)
