Vienna (OTS) Today, Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner and military commander, Brigadier Martin Jawurek, visited the soldiers who are deployed to assist Covid at the Laa an der Thaya border crossing. You are part of the assistance company that was reinforced in staff on December 19, 2020 by the COVID entry regulations. As part of her visit, the minister brought Christmas greetings, including cookies, to local staff.

Our armed forces are ready for our protection throughout the day, also this Christmas Eve. In particular, I would like to thank all the soldiers and officials who cannot be with their families today and who work for the security of Austria, ”said the Defense Minister.

On behalf of the health authority, the Lower Austrian Federal Army and the police are checking compliance with the provisions of the COVID-19 Entry Ordinance. The state border with the Czech Republic and Slovakia is monitored. About 50 soldiers from the Vienna Guard and Melk Pioneer Battalion 3 were deployed for this purpose before December 18, 2020. As of December 19, 2020, these were reinforced by another 90 soldiers from the Jäger Battalion 12 from Amstetten and the Allentsteig and Horn 4th Reconnaissance and Artillery Battalion.

On Christmas Eve, around 260 soldiers and officials are deployed in Lower Austria; In doing so, they continue to support health authorities as part of a Covid assistance mission with border controls, contact tracing, or drive-in test stations.
