“Absolutely horrible. A joke from a game. Everybody asked me why I’m moving further and further away from darts. That’s one of the reasons.”
Gary Anderson was enraged after his second round victory at the Darts World Cup in 2021 against his slow action opponent Mensur Suljovic on the microphone of Sky sports, after initially declining the mandatory winner interview. (Darts World Cup with Gabriel Clemens until January 3 LIVE on TV on SPORT1, on LIVESTREAM and LIVETICKER)
The Scotsman even threatened to resign if something like this happens again: “If your opponent is better than you and gives you a massage, that’s fine, but that’s a lot of crap. In the end I won, but if darts like that run, I’m going. So I prefer to play golf or something like that. “

Suljovic Nervt Anderson
Clear words from Anderson, who was extremely upset with Suljovic on Monday night. The Austrian, known as a slow player, took a lot of time that night in Anderson’s eyes, not just on the pitch, but especially on the way to eight.
The 2015 and 2016 world champion, who was upset that Suljovic did not stand at the table he was assigned after the walk, initially only commented by rolling his eyes and shaking his head, but after the game he gave Suljovic a lot.
“Did you see the last sentence? Or the third? Was it slow? No. I just want to play darts. 90 percent of the audience probably turned off and saw Corrie (British soap opera, editor’s note. Red.). At least I would have, “said the angry 50-year-old.

Van Gerwen is against Wright
But anger over a dart competitor is apparently just part of this World Cup.
The best example of this is world number one Michael van Gerwen, who commented on the end of world champion Peter Wright against Gabriel Clemens with a surprisingly scathing comment: “When you say so much shit, things like this can happen to you.”
MvG, which lost the 2020 World Cup final to Wright earlier in the year, even added: “We all know what Peter Wright is like. He says nonsense in every interview. You know of an interview where he said no nonsense.” He talks like this afterwards. of every victory and every defeat. It doesn’t say anything useful. “
Clemens vs. Ratajski starting at 8.45 pm LIVE on TV and STREAM on SPORT1 as well as on LIVETICKER
If it was another deliberate poison dart used by van Gerwen against Wright who didn’t even know Clemens’s name – in an interview he asked “what’s his name? This German? The giant …” – or he actually the most prominent until now The year was ignored by Clemens, it remains his secret.
When Taylor and Barney fought
The great rivalry between darts professionals, which often erupts during or immediately after games, is not a new phenomenon. Perhaps it is because professionals can only fight or slow down with mind games and not, as in many other sports, through physical aggression.
The little things can often trigger a completely overreaction, like in the 2013 World Cup semi-finals between dart legends Phil Taylor and Raymond van Barneveld. When Barney picked up winner Taylor after the game to hug him in his own words, he reacted angrily.
The record world champion broke loose, pushed the Dutchman and cursed him. The two of them had never had any major problems with each other before, so Taylor’s reaction was a surprise. They later reconciled.
Anderson and the “fart thing”
But Anderson himself doesn’t collide with an opponent for the first time. The fight in the last 16 of the 2018 Grand Slam of Darts was particularly curious. BDO pro Wesley Harms complained that Anderson had thrown him off his mind with a fart; Harms in turn accused Harms of “venting.”
At the same tournament, Anderson was involved in another discussion; in this case, however, it was definitely the opponent. In the duel with Gerwyn Price, Anderson led the way when the Welshman suddenly cheered several times against the Scotsman and even collided with his opponent.
It was understandable that Anderson refused to shake hands with “Iceman” after the game. Especially since Price himself refrained from shaking hands a couple of times after a defeat and harassment against his opponents, as was the case with James Wade (Premier League 2019) and Wright (World Cup 2020), among others.
Wade rages – Cough pipe
Wade can also forget manners during a game of darts. At the 2019 World Cup, the Englishman was extremely aggressive towards Seigo Asada. “I wanted to hurt him. I really wanted to hurt him in the face. That was for my son and also for the UK,” he said after his victory.
Later, however, Wade widely apologized on Twitter and justified his behavior with hypomania, which manifests itself in phases of elevated mood and increased drive, but also through phases of depression.

Justin Pipe’s behavior at the 2018 World Cup, on the other hand, could only be explained by unlimited unsportsmanlike conduct. When it came to everything in his first-round match against ranked Bernie Smith with a score of 2: 2, Pipe suddenly stepped into his opponent’s shoes and coughed violently into his back.
This then missed the double field, Pipe won. In his next game against Phil Taylor, Pipe was mercilessly booed by fans.
Van Gerwen involved in a hate duel
But there was a special hate duel at the 2020 World Cup when van Gerwen met fellow countryman Jelle Klaasen. Klaasen had once sent van Gerwen’s current wife’s mentally disabled sister photos of himself and requested them himself.
Since then, MvG has only talked about Klaasen, but definitely not with him. After neither looking at him during the match nor shaking hands, van Gerwen said at the press conference: “I hate him, so I don’t want to lose to him.”
With the exception of the Taylor incident, all of this and more has happened in the last three years. This World Cup proves that darts pros don’t need angry spectators to cook indoors.
So the next Zoff in the Darts World Cup is probably not much more than an arrow shot.
