As announced, a working meeting took place in Hollabrunn on Wednesday morning which, according to central works council Robert Wurm, lasted three and a half hours, from 4:00 am to 7:30 am BB spokesperson Christopher Seif stressed, however, that the allegations made were “unfounded” and would be “completely unfounded.”
The reason for the meeting was “dangerous working days” of almost 16 hours for drivers, which the Postbus board had promoted since classes began, according to a Tuesday broadcast. About 30 colleagues were present in Hollabrunn on Wednesday morning, and more in Pulkau or Ernstbrunn, Wurm told the APA. He assumed that 50 percent of the courses in the area around the Weinviertel district city were canceled during the business meeting.
BB spokesperson Seif said in a statement that in Hollabrunn’s traffic management in the Eastern Regional Directorate “the shift list had been optimized in coordination with the works councils.” On average, there are only three out of ten duty stations once every two weeks, twice a day, in the morning and in the evening. The drivers would have “volunteered” for this. These are services of four to five hours, followed by a “rest period of more than nine hours”, followed by another service. These are mostly four day weeks.
Wurm, in turn, sent a letter from the Postbus board addressed to him on Wednesday of the previous day, in which he faced possible claims for damages. According to the letter, it must be “notorious” for “the great damage” that a company meeting at 4:00 am would cause in rural areas. That was “unworthy of a BB,” Wurm admitted angrily. In this context, he also pointed out that colleagues had been given notice of termination or disciplinary sanctions in case of participation in the meeting. Employee representatives will discuss how to proceed next week.
The Postbus AG drives everywhere “where there is no other public connection,” the BB spokesperson said in the statement. He is reluctant for the central works council to “resolve the dispute at the expense of the passengers.”
