Vienna (OTS) The Private Employees, Printing, Journalism, Paper Union (GPA-djp) and the federal commerce division of the WKO were able to reach a collective agreement for the approximately 420,000 retail employees on October 21. Apprentices’ wages and earnings will increase by 1.5 percent if overpayments are maintained. There is also an invitation from the social partners to companies that can afford to pay a crown bonus of at least 150 euros to their employees this year. Retail trainees who were exempted from homeschooling by regulation during the shutdown and who were brought to work receive a mandatory bonus of 150 euros. The social partners were also able to agree on a new surcharge for working on New Year’s Eve. To work between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., on 12/31. a 50 percent surcharge. A 100 percent surcharge must be paid after 3 pm In the future, compensatory rest periods must be granted to compensate for shorter rest periods. If this is not possible, there will be time compensation. Changes to the Saturday rule make it easier for part-time workers to work weekends. These regulations will enter into force on December 1, 2020.

The period of change to the new salary system will be extended by one month for companies until 01/01/2022.

“With the agreement, the special economic conditions of the trade were taken into account and a sustainable real wage increase for all employees was achieved. Together with the legal improvements, it is a presentable result from which commercial employees will benefit in the long term, ”explains GPA-djp chief negotiator Anita Palkovich.

“We will take a very close look at who will comply with the request to pay a crown bonus and will bring all companies to the curtain that reject the bonus to their employees despite positive sales,” said Commercial Sector President Martin Müllauer.

The collective agreement enters into force on January 1, 2021.
