Cryptocurrency fraud: the Tyrolean lost several thousand euros

Innsbruck – An ad on Facebook allowed a 48-year-old to come across the scam ring. The Tyrolean registered on an alleged cryptocurrency page that he had learned about through the social media platform. The man was then contacted by phone several times and finally led to install an application called “anydesk” on the cell phone. This made it possible for an alleged employee of the site to access the victim’s cell phone with the victim’s consent.

At the end of October, the 48-year-old was asked to pay 250 euros to the account opened on his mobile phone (Tyrolean bank). A few days later the money was returned to the account after supposedly “working” for bitcoins in the background. The process was then repeated with double the amount, which was also transferred back.

In November, the 48-year-old man was finally asked to make two more payments, each with a four-digit amount, in order to use the services. Since then none of the contact persons can be reached. Based on the status of the investigation, the Tyrolean suffered damage in the mid-four-digit range. (TT.com)
